Composite Deck Update in Old Milford Farms | Milford, MI

Deckorators Summit Cliffside Deck Update in Old Milford Farms

An aging painted wood deck doesn’t always require a complete rebuild. This project in Milford’s Old Milford Farms subdivision demonstrates how resurfacing a structurally sound deck with premium composite materials can completely transform an outdoor living space while preserving much of the existing framework.

By combining Deckorators Summit Cliffside mineral-based composite decking, custom picture framing, composite skirting, and Trex Signature aluminum railing, Titan Decks delivered a beautiful, low-maintenance deck that looks and performs like new.

The Project

When Titan Decks evaluated this existing deck, the underlying framing was still in good condition and suitable for reuse. Rather than recommending a complete replacement, we developed a resurfacing plan that maximized the homeowner’s investment while addressing structural concerns discovered during construction.

The project began with the removal of the existing painted wood decking and stairs while preserving the structural framing below. Before installing the new decking, our team added framing to close the open section near the chimney, creating a cleaner deck layout and improving the usable outdoor living space.

To help protect the existing framing for years to come, every joist received premium joist tape before the new composite decking was installed.

The homeowners selected Deckorators Summit Cliffside, a sophisticated gray-brown color available exclusively in the lightweight Summit collection. The natural wood-inspired tones complement both the home’s brick exterior and mature landscaping while providing the long-term durability and low maintenance homeowners expect from today’s premium mineral-based composite decking.

A custom composite picture frame defines the deck perimeter and highlights the deck’s distinctive angled design. Matching fascia and composite deck board skirting create a clean, finished appearance from every viewing angle.

The existing built-in bench was resurfaced with matching Deckorators decking, allowing one of the deck’s most popular gathering spaces to remain while blending seamlessly into the new design.

Because only one stairway required a railing, the homeowners selected Trex Signature black aluminum railing for the driveway-side stairs. Its sleek, contemporary profile provides safety without overwhelming the deck’s open views of the backyard.

During demolition, our crew also identified deteriorated structural beams beneath portions of the deck. These beams were replaced through a change order, ensuring the finished project rests on a solid structural foundation.

The completed project demonstrates how thoughtful planning and quality materials can dramatically extend the life of an existing deck. Instead of replacing the entire structure, this Milford homeowner now enjoys the appearance of a brand-new outdoor living space with the beauty, durability, and low-maintenance performance of today’s leading composite decking products.

A Smart Alternative to Complete Deck Replacement

Many older decks still have framing that remains structurally sound even though the decking, stairs, and railings have reached the end of their service life. In these situations, resurfacing can provide exceptional value by preserving usable structural components while replacing everything homeowners see and use every day.

For this Old Milford Farms project, the combination of structural improvements, protective framing upgrades, Deckorators Summit Cliffside decking, composite skirting, and Trex Signature railing created a deck that looks entirely new while maximizing the value of the existing structure.
