Project Overview
Many homeowners have a deck that is structurally sound but beginning to show its age. When the framing is still in good condition, resurfacing can be an excellent way to achieve the look and performance of a new deck while avoiding the cost of a complete rebuild. That’s exactly what happened with this featured project in the Pickwick Village subdivision of Canton Township.
The homeowners wanted to modernize their outdoor living space while improving privacy, drainage, and long-term durability. Titan Decks removed the existing deck boards, railings, and stairs while preserving the existing framing system. Additional framing was installed to support a composite picture-frame border, and joist tape was added to help protect the existing structure from future moisture exposure.
The new deck surface was completed using Trex Enhance Naturals composite decking and matching fascia. A composite picture-frame border creates a clean, finished appearance while helping define the deck’s entertaining spaces. The original angled layout was also squared off to provide a more functional design and updated appearance.
One of the most distinctive features of this project is the aluminum privacy screen installed along the south side of the deck. The screen provides additional separation from neighboring properties while maintaining an open and attractive outdoor living environment.
The project also included new black aluminum railings, rebuilt stairs, and grading improvements around the deck area. Additional river rock was installed to help correct negative grading and improve drainage away from the home.
The finished result is a beautiful 437-square-foot outdoor living space that offers the appearance of natural wood without the maintenance requirements of staining, sealing, or replacing deteriorated boards. The updated design provides a comfortable space for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the backyard throughout the season.
