Titan Decks transformed this large, multi-level deck in Deer Creek Sub No. 2 in Plymouth Township with new composite decking, upgraded structural support, new fascia, and a coordinated railing system.

Rather than simply replacing the deck surface, this project included important improvements to the existing structure before the new decking was installed. The finished project extends across the rear of the home and includes a matching second-story balcony.

The Existing Deck

The existing deck surface and railings were removed and hauled away so the underlying structure could be evaluated and prepared for the new composite decking.

The existing beams were releveled, and four compromised support posts were replaced with new 6×6 posts.

Because the original joists were spaced approximately 18 inches on center, additional joists were installed to reduce the spacing to approximately 9 inches on center. This provided the additional support needed for the new composite deck surface.

Joist tape was also installed before the new decking went down to help protect the framing from moisture.

Deckorators Summit Cliffside Decking

The new deck surface features Deckorators Summit composite decking in Cliffside.

Cliffside provides a warm gray-brown appearance that complements the brick and neutral siding of the home. The decking was installed throughout the large main deck and used to create a picture-frame border around the perimeter.

The same Cliffside decking was carried onto the upper balcony, creating a consistent appearance between the two outdoor spaces.

AZEK PVC Fascia

White AZEK PVC fascia was installed around the deck perimeter.

The white fascia creates a clean finished edge while coordinating with the home’s existing white exterior trim and the new white railing system.

Trex Select Railings

The deck was finished with Trex Select composite railings in white with black balusters.

The combination provides a strong contrast against the Cliffside decking while tying into the home’s white trim. The black balusters also help maintain an open view from the elevated deck.

The same railing combination was installed on the upper balcony so the entire project has a coordinated appearance.

Upper Balcony Update

The second-story balcony was updated along with the main deck rather than leaving it with a different decking and railing system.

Deckorators Summit Cliffside decking and the white Trex Select railing with black balusters were installed on the balcony to match the main deck below.

This creates a unified appearance across the entire rear elevation of the home.
