Project Overview
This deck project in the Northridge Villas subdivision of Northville Township, Michigan involved replacing an aging deck with a new composite deck designed to improve durability, safety, and outdoor usability. The new elevated deck provides a spacious outdoor living area directly off the home while a long staircase connects the deck to the backyard below.
Titan Decks removed the existing deck structure and constructed a completely new deck using pressure-treated structural framing with joists spaced 12 inches on center to provide enhanced support for composite decking. The finished surface features Trex Enhance® Naturals decking in Coastal Bluff, paired with Trex Signature® aluminum railing for a clean, modern appearance that complements the home and surrounding landscape.
The project also included integrated lighting and landscaping improvements beneath the deck to enhance both safety and visual appeal.

Deck Design and Layout
The design for this project was created to maximize usable space while maintaining comfortable access between the elevated deck and the backyard.
The main deck measures approximately 18 feet wide by 16 feet deep, creating a large outdoor living area just outside the home. A 10-foot by 5-foot landing connects the main deck to the stair system, providing a smooth transition between levels.
A 4-foot wide staircase runs from the landing down to the yard and is designed to maintain comfortable proportions and safe access to the lower yard. The layout allows the deck to function as both an entertaining space and a practical connection to the backyard.

Deck Lighting

Wedge Post Lights
Wedge lights were installed on alternating railing posts to provide subtle illumination along the deck perimeter.
Stair Riser Lighting
Two lights were installed on each stair rise to illuminate the staircase and improve safety when accessing the yard after dark.
Together these lighting elements highlight the structure of the deck while enhancing both safety and ambiance.

Under-Deck Improvements
The area beneath the elevated deck was also improved during the project. Existing landscape timbers were removed and the ground surface was smoothed to create a cleaner and more finished appearance.
A weed barrier and egg rock base were installed beneath the deck to help control vegetation growth and reduce maintenance beneath the structure.
